Storage Worker Shot After Finding People Sleeping in Unit

By Alex Morgan. Oct 16, 2026

A storage worker was shot after finding people sleeping inside a rented unit during her morning rounds, according to an arrest affidavit reported by Law&Crime.

The employee survived the Oct. 10 shooting in Palm Bay, Florida. Authorities initially described her injuries as not life-threatening.

Kandice Jo Pierce, 40, is charged with attempted murder. Palm Bay police arrested her outside a nearby business without incident, according to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.

A Dispute During Morning Rounds

The employee found Pierce and another person inside the unit around 10 a.m., according to the affidavit.

She told them that living or sleeping there was not permitted. Pierce said she had rented the unit and believed they should be allowed to stay, investigators alleged.

The employee offered not to report them to management if they left. As she walked away, Pierce called her back. The employee then heard a bang and realized she had been shot, according to the affidavit.

She took shelter under a desk and called 911.

An Arrest After the Shooting

Deputies identified Pierce as the renter and sought an attempted first-degree murder warrant before announcing her arrest.

WFTV and FOX 35 Orlando reported that another person had been inside the unit when the shooting occurred. The reports do not establish that anyone else faces a charge in the attack.

Law&Crime reported on Oct. 14 that Pierce was being held without bond, with a court date set for Nov. 10. She has not been convicted in this case.

The employee was able to summon help after being wounded. Her name and further recovery details were not provided in the reports.
