Abducted Boys Found Safe in Cornfield After Two-State Search
By Jordan Reyes. Oct 17, 2026
Two abducted boys were found safe in an Ohio cornfield after their mother escaped an assault at their Michigan home and called police.
The search began on Oct. 14 in Inkster. Police said the children’s father, Brandon Deandre Lee, 36, assaulted and restrained their mother before leaving in her vehicle with the boys.
The woman freed herself and contacted police. She suffered minor wrist injuries, according to Inkster police Chief Jenkins.
A Search That Crossed State Lines
During a telephone conversation with the mother, Lee said he was in Detroit’s Rouge Park and threatened to harm himself and the children, police said.
Officers searched the park area for more than an hour. License-plate camera information showed that the vehicle had left Inkster, and investigators used cellphone-location information to trace it farther away.
The search led to Norwalk, in Ohio’s Huron County, south of Sandusky. Michigan and Ohio agencies worked together to locate the family.
A Child Described the Cornfield
Police established telephone contact, and one of the children told them they were in a cornfield, according to WDIV’s report of the police account.
Officers found both boys unharmed. Their father was found dead in what authorities described as an apparent suicide.
The children received care in Ohio and spoke with their mother. Social workers were involved, and officers were arranging their return to Michigan in the evening reports.
Police said there was no ongoing threat to the community. The investigation remained open.
