Father of Six Killed During Security Shift
A father of six was working theater security when he was fatally shot. Ulysses Tykee Davis, 47, died after the October 3 shooting outside San Francisco’s Warfield theater; a woman now faces a murder charge.
Police found Davis wounded on Market Street around 1 a.m. Officers provided aid before paramedics took him to a hospital, where he died.
Davis was known to relatives as Bear and grew up in the Bayview-Hunters Point neighborhood. He was a father of six, according to his family.
Murder Charge Announced After Arrest
District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced October 7 that Shakia Vanderbilt had been charged with murder. The prosecutor’s office also listed discharging a firearm at an occupied building and four counts of possession of a firearm by a felon.
The district attorney alleged firearm use in connection with the fatal shooting. Vanderbilt remains accused; the charges are not a finding of guilt.
Relatives said Davis had been dealing with a disruption involving a theater attendee before the shooting.
Family Remembers Bear
Police said the investigation remained active after the arrest. The district attorney’s announcement described the emergency response and hospital efforts to save Davis.
His brother-in-law, Terrance Cooper, told KTVU that Davis could be counted on when someone needed help. Cooper described the loss as a bad dream the family could not wake from.
