Woman Escaped Kidnapper Before Police Tracked His Car

A woman told Oakland police an armed stranger kidnapped her and drove away with her inside the vehicle. She managed to get out – and the description she gave officers helped a police helicopter find the suspect’s car soon afterward.

The kidnapping was reported shortly after 5 p.m. Aug. 25 near the Embarcadero in East Oakland. Police said the woman was driven only a short distance before she escaped and contacted officers.
