A Student’s Report Led Administrators to School Video
A Florida middle school teacher is facing a felony child abuse charge after deputies said surveillance video showed her dragging a seventh-grade student from a classroom into an exterior hallway. Fada Concepcion, 52, was arrested after school administrators reviewed the video and the student’s father asked that charges be pursued.
The incident happened during a third-period science class at Tuskawilla Middle School in Seminole County on Sept. 29, according to arrest reports described by local news outlets. Investigators said Concepcion grabbed the student by the arm and moved him about 20 feet from his seat into the hallway.
A student statement brought the allegation to school administrators the next day. The school then notified child-protection officials and a school resource deputy, and administrators reviewed footage from the campus camera system. Deputies said the video supported the student’s account that he had been dragged.
Concepcion has worked for Seminole County Public Schools for 29 years, according to the district. She was placed on administrative leave after the arrest and was ordered not to return to the school while the case proceeds.
The Teacher Disputes How Investigators Described the Incident
Concepcion faces a third-degree felony charge of child abuse without great bodily harm. At a court appearance, a judge found probable cause for the case to move forward and reduced her bond from $5,000 to $1,000.
Her defense disputes the characterization of the classroom encounter. WFTV reported that Concepcion said she had been escorting the student and did not remember dragging him. Her attorney argued that the student was not injured and challenged the state’s description of what occurred.
Those disagreements will be part of the legal case. The surveillance footage has not been publicly released, so the public accounts depend on the arrest report, school response and statements made in court. The charge remains an allegation and Concepcion has not been convicted.
The judge also ordered Concepcion to have no contact with the student and not to return to Tuskawilla Middle School. She is expected back in court in November, according to local reporting.
The school setting is central because the allegation began during an ordinary class period and was then reviewed through the school’s own reporting and camera systems. The first report did not come from police; it moved through students and administrators before reaching law enforcement.
A Classroom Complaint Became a Criminal Case
The student was not reported to have suffered a serious injury. That fact is part of the defense argument, while prosecutors and deputies point to the alleged physical handling shown on video as the basis for the felony charge.
Seminole County Public Schools has not publicly described any final employment decision beyond placing Concepcion on administrative leave. The district said it was following its procedures while law enforcement handled the criminal investigation.
The case now turns on a short episode inside and just outside a classroom: what happened, how much force was used, and what the school video shows. Because the footage has not been released, those questions will be addressed through the court process rather than through public viewing of the recording.
For the student and family, the matter moved quickly from a school complaint to an arrest. For Concepcion, a career measured in decades is now interrupted by a felony accusation and an order keeping her away from the campus while the case is pending.
The court restrictions also keep the criminal case separate from the district’s internal process. The school system can make employment decisions under its own policies, while prosecutors must prove the felony accusation in court. Until then, the surveillance video and witness accounts remain evidence to be tested rather than a final finding of guilt.
